Mrs. Hinrichs![]() A part of the Colfax teaching family since 1993, Mrs. Hinrichs obtained her BA in Liberal Arts from California State University Sacramento. She earned her Multiple Subject teaching credential from CSUS with a supplementary in English, and a CLAD (Cross Cultural, Language, and Academic Development Certificate).
Her family consists of her husband, Mike; their children Michael and wife, Dorsa, Cathy and husband, Dan, Matthew, Hanna; and the family labrador, Sierra. A gypsy at heart, Mrs. Hinrichs has visited most of the National Parks in the Western U.S. (her favorite is Olympic in Washington). Her love for the open road has taken her to more than 20 states (her favorite city - Nashville). Her curiosity has taken her over the Pacific to each of the Hawaiian Islands (her favorite is Kauai). Across the Atlantic, Mrs. Hinrichs has explored England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and France - each one she would gladly return to in a heartbeat. Spain and Italy in 2019 is her next adventure. Mrs. Hinrichs enjoys anything outdoors, but mostly hiking, camping, water-skiing, snowboard/skiing, vball, and fly-fishing. Her favorite sports teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers; the Boston Redsoxs, the Colfax Bulldogs and the CHS Falcons. Reading, writing, music, running, cooking and all things Celtic are her hobbies. Her favorite, all time book is Where the Red Fern Grows, but she loves medieval fantasy as a genre and suggests everyone read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss OR the historical fiction novel, Song of the Sparrow , by Lisa Ann Sandell. Looking for reading suggestions? Mrs. Hinrichs has a gazillion recommendations - Lockdown, Shatter Me, Kiss of Deception, Grenade. If you want to put Mrs. H in a good mood, come to school ready to discover new ideas, put "I can" into your vocabulary, take "boring" out, and if all else fails, bring in a smile - it will brighten up the day. A favorite quote: "Through fire the spirit is forged." Katherine Paterson - Sign of the Chrysanthemum

"The skills and knowledge captured in the ELA/literacy standards are designed to prepare students for life outside the classroom. They include critical-thinking skills and the ability to closely and attentively read texts in a way that will help them understand and enjoy complex works of literature. Students will learn to use cogent reasoning and evidence collection skills that are essential for success in college, career, and life. The standards also lay out a vision of what it means to be a literate person who is prepared for success in the 21st century." -corestandards.org
