Colfax Elementary School utilizes Chromebook carts for one to one Chromebook use in all 4th through 8th grade classrooms. There are also a few Chromebooks in other classrooms and one to one Chromebooks in our Learning Center. We utilize Google Apps for Education and every student above grade 3 and all staff members have their own Google account. Both student and staff can email and share documents between any other student or staff. Students however cannot communicate outside of Colfax's Google accounts via a Google Control Policy for security reasons. Google Docs are available to staff and students from home and school.
Along with Chromebooks, Colfax Elementary as a PC lab with 30 modern computers for the lower grades and a library with 8 up-to-date modern laptops. Lower grades use computers for ST.Math, Renaissance Learning, typing programs, Phonics and other computer based learning and assessment tools.
All classrooms have projectors, Doc Cameras and Smart Boards which are amazing tools that allow students to have a more dynamic and interactive classroom. Smart Boards are an interactive teaching tools allowing students to participate with hand-on learning experiences.
Colfax Elementary School is connected to the internet with a 100 Mbps fiber connection and campus wide wireless access. Regardless of the subject document cameras help make the most out of any lesson plan by allowing teachers to move past the whiteboard and into the world of three dimensional shapes, for example:
Science Classes - students can see the teacher dissecting a frog that is displayed so that all of the class can easily see. Or, you can show the difference between beetles and butterflies in a unique, new way.
Geometry Classes - use a document camera to add a 3D twist to the complicated world of pyramids, cones and cylinders.
Geology Classes - teachers can show up-close and personal different types and textures of rocks.
Art Classes - Students can watch and see more clearly techniques on molding clay and making perfect brush strokes.
